Work Harder on your Self!
We all go through the struggle trying to find our place in this world. Where we belong, where we fit in, and just that sense of being important and feeling wanted. Yes, life’s journey is a real treacherous one, filled with both joy and pain; up and down like a roller coaster ride. Yes, life is not easy at all! It requires each and everyone of us to be persistent, amenable to change, and be able to survive.
Our survival is critical, but with survival comes the constant search of our life’s meaning. Our soul craves for purpose and we search everywhere for it. However, what we must realize is that our sense of purpose is within us. We just have to do a bit of self introspection in order to tap into it.
The great Jim Rohn, once said, “that you must work harder on yourself, than you do at your job”. What a valid assessment! Working harder on one’s self provides an opportunity to radically change one’s life. Jim is not saying not to put in a 100% at work, but what he is saying is to put in 120% on yourself. Jim is really driving at personal development. Personal development is our only way to achieve greatness and to live life to our God given potential. For those that are biblically astute, Ephesians 2:10, states that “we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, for which he has prepared beforehand for us to do”. What an amazing verse to reflect on! However, the hard question for most of us is if we are tapping into doing the “good works”.
The “good works”, does not mean that we have to step on to the pulpit and start preaching or to become a nun at the convent. The “good works” puts this question in perspective. What small thing or big thing are you doing to make a difference in making the world a more compassionate, caring, and love place? How are you making a revolutionary change, whether big or small? If we take a look at some of our contemporaries, we see that they are and were forward thinking and purposeful visionaries. In the space of technology, we have Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, and so many more. If we just look at humanity in general, Gandhi, Winfrey, Mandela. All these greats are inspiration to us in providing meaning to the I create the Life I want .
We all can create the life we want as it is in our hands. You are the architect with the blueprint! Paint your own Mona Lisa! So how do we go about creating the life that we want to live? The answer lies in keeping this 4 F factors in mind and making sure that they align with our goals. The 4 F factors are Faith, Focus, Fear, and Family. All these factors are critical in creating the life that you want. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, it is the dreams and visions that we want to be real. Those dreams and visions don’t become real by just dreaming and wishing, but by having an ACTION PLAN. Success is in action, creating the life you want is deliberate planned action! As B.C. Forbes, once said, “ He who has faith has… an inward reservoir of courage, hope, confidence, calmness, and assuring trust that all will come out well – even though to the world it may appear to come out most badly.” So faith is a believe in oneself and also in a belief in an higher power in getting things done.
Along with faith, comes focus. Focus is vital as is a rudder in a ship. Focus provides the clear direction and predicts the eventual outcome. Jack Canfield, once said that “successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next action steps they need to take to get them closer to the fulfillment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them”.
Without focus, Micheal Jordan will have not become Micheal Jordan! Think about that for a second,, a guy that was initially cut from his high school varsity team. Well, what did he do? Yes, he cried after getting cut, but he refocused, persevered, and worked hard. During his basketball career, Michael Jordan scored 32,292 points, earned six NBA championships and five NBA MVP titles, and made 14 All-Star Game appearances. Yes, we can do all things through Christ that strengthens us and having a spirit of focus and hard work!
Fear is another factor that cripples. We all have to overcome that reality as most of us have fears to overcome. However, we cannot let fear send us to the land of no return. Fighting our fears is much like trying something new and getting out of our comfort zones. It allows us to experience growth and be transformed in our way of thought. It also strengthens our decision making process and provides a much more diversified life experience.
The great Charles Stanley, said that “fear stifles our thinking and actions. It creates indecisiveness that results in stagnation. I have known talented people who procrastinate indefinitely rather than risk failure. Lost opportunities cause erosion of confidence, and the downward spiral begins”. So lets all try as much as possible to put fear underneath our feet! Psalms 34:4 says that “I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears”. For the spiritually centered and astute, the Lord will deliver your fears!
Family is a critical factor in creating the life that you want. They can serve as that inner fire that gets you going and working hard towards your goals and inspiration. You might not have all the money in the world, but having the right kind of supportive family would take you far! In the Reallionaire, by Farrah Gray, he recalled when his mom told him, to “dream big, my little golden child. You can do and be anything you want. Then she planted a kiss on my cheek and left the room”. Guess what now, with a family that gave him the values to live by pride, respect, hard work and preparation, Farrah became a millionaire by the age of 14 and was able to get his family out from the rungs of poverty and inner city life. You should read that book when you get a chance, it is such an inspiring story. You can really create the life you want as that life is in your hands.
We all have to take responsibility of our lives and graduate from an ordinary life to an extraordinary life. Each and everyday of our lives count and we can make each day count by challenging our selves in living a life of disciplined Focus, unwavering Faith, supernatural divine Fear, and commitment to Family. We can create the life we want by making the necessary changes and working more on ourselves than we work at our job!
Let’s get at it!
